LETTERING CRITERIA

An athlete who participates in the St. Paul Central mountain bike team may earn a Varsity letter outlined by one or more of the criteria listed below. Lettering with the St. Paul Central mountain bike team is non-renewing, meaning an athlete must continue to qualify by the criteria even if the athlete had previously been given a letter.

1. RACE CATEGORY LETTERING

2. PODIUM LETTERING

An athlete will earn a Varsity letter if they compete in either the Junior Varsity three lap (JV3) or Varsity race category and complete at least one of the sub-criteria:

  • An athlete competes in three races in JV3 or Varsity and finishes in top 50% of the MCA standings at the end of the season.

  • An athlete competes in three races in JV3 or Varsity and has previously finished top 10% in JV2.

An athlete will earn a Varsity letter if they finish in the top three in an MCA race, or place in the top four on the team for winning points at any race (excluding middle schoolers)

3. CAREER LETTERING

An athlete will earn a Varsity letter their senior year if they fulfill at least one sub-criteria:

  • An athlete participates for four years on the team, competes in a minimum of two races, and competes or spectates at least one race per season. The athlete must provide proof of their attending of races.

  • An athlete participates for four years on the team, contributes to the betterment of the team, and spectates at least two races per season. The athlete must provide proof of their attending of races.

4. HEAD COACH DISCRETION

An athlete will receive a Varsity letter if the head coach determines they are deserving of it.

DISQUALIFICATIONS

  • An athlete is disqualified from earning a Varsity letter from the St. Paul Central mountain bike team if they do not meet the St. Paul Central Athletic department’s academic requirements.

  • An athlete is disqualified from earning a Varsity letter from the St. Paul Central mountain bike team if they have had a suspension.
