Team Captains

Team captains guide the St. Paul Central mountain bike team, taking on a meaningful leadership role that helps them grow as athletes and leaders.

Eligibility

  • High school student in the fall
  • At least one year on the team prior to serving as a captain
  • Proven leadership skills and demonstrated engagement with the team
  • May be a captain for multiple years

Responsibilities

  • Attend an average of two practices per week, with an emphasis on attending practices at the start of the season to support team engagement
  • At least one captain will attend all races where the team has a rider participating (captains will coordinate)
  • Encourage riders of all levels at practices and races with positive and constructive guidance
  • Model appropriate and respectful behavior and participation at practices and races
  • Coordinate and host at least two informational sessions at St. Paul middle schools in the spring
  • Serve as liaisons for the head coach and the Parent Board, providing counsel, insights, and feedback as needed
  • Serve as a mentor to junior captains, including inclusion in captain communications
  • Work with the head coach to create a mentorship program where experienced riders support and ride alongside newer team members during practices

Additional Considerations

  • Designing yearly spirit wear for riders and families
  • Managing team social media profiles
  • Creating regular team communications as needed
  • Hosting captain rides for the team
  • Coordinating team events, such as pre-race pasta dinners or bike mechanic sessions
  • Additional special projects as needed to support the team

  • Applications for 2026 will be accepted through March 15th
  • Head coach will interview candidates beginning late March

Junior Captains

We are excited to offer this opportunity for middle school athletes to serve as junior captains!

Eligibility

  • Middle school student grades 7–8 in the fall
  • At least one year on the team prior to serving as a captain
  • Proven leadership skills and demonstrated engagement with the team
  • May be a captain for multiple years

Responsibilities

  • Attend an average of one practice per week
  • Offer support to new riders by welcoming them to practice, checking in during practice, making sure they have someone to talk with after practice
  • Attend middle school race days
  • Help captains with overall captain responsibilities
  • Be receptive to advice and coaching from captains
